Ashlee’s fresh start with credit.

“What motivates me is trying to do new things: go somewhere new, learn a new language,” says Capital One customer Ashlee, from Calgary, AB. “I just push myself to do more.”

As someone with an appetite for growing and expanding her horizons, Ashlee understands first hand the role that credit plays in unlocking the world.

“Credit opens so many doors,” she says. “That ‘yes’ allowed me to do more, see more, and live more.”

Before Capital One, Ashlee found herself in a financial situation many Canadians can relate to. “I got my first credit card when I was 18-years-old, but when you’re so young, you’re not really taught how to use it,” she recalls. “I made bad choices with my credit.”

After some trial and error with her first card, Ashlee needed a healthier relationship with finances to rebuild her credit.

“It’s something a lot of people experience, but maybe don’t feel comfortable talking about,” she says. “There are misconceptions about credit that if you ruin it, you can’t rebuild it. I wish I knew sooner that building or rebuilding my credit is easier than I thought.”

That’s where Capital One came in. “That ‘yes’ to credit allowed me to restart my financial journey,” she says. “Credit has helped me finance a new car, travel and experience all the beautiful things there are to see in the world.”

Part of the fun has been sharing the experience with her inner circle at home. “My favourite thing is to bring back recipes inspired by my travels,” she says.

“I love the joy I get from sharing food with my friends and seeing people try things that they may have never tried before. ‘Yes’ to me means being able to do all of the little things that make you happy.”

Seeing her credit score go up along the way is an added bonus. “I feel really proud of myself,” she says.

One piece of credit-building advice? “Use your mobile app to make sure you’re making your payments on time,” she advises. Setting up alerts, for example, helps Ashlee stay on top of her upcoming due dates.

Another piece of advice? “Eat the good food.”

Ashlee is one of over 4 million Canadians who’ve gotten a “yes” to credit from Capital One. Ready to start your financial journey? Find out which Capital One product is right for you.

* If Quick Check pre-approves a card, you can be sure we’ll approve your application, except in limited circumstances. Some of the reasons we may not approve your application, among others, include:

a. There’s been a change in your credit file information, personal information or financial status from the time you receive your Quick Check results to the time you apply for one of our credit cards.

b. You’re not at least the age of majority in the province or territory you live in.

c. Your application is flagged for fraud prevention.

d. You have an existing Capital One account.

e. You’ve applied for a Capital One account in the last 30 days or had an account with us that was not in good standing in the last year. In good standing means not past due, over limit, fraudulent, restricted, or part of a consumer credit counselling program or bankruptcy.

In some cases, we may not be able to open an account for you even though your application was approved. This can happen if we’re unable to verify your identity, or you don’t provide the required security funds if you’re approved for a Secured Mastercard®.
