How rebuilding his credit opened doors for Jeff.

“When a company offers you credit, you can take it as a compliment,” reflects Capital One customer Jeff. “Capital One chose me.”

The Stoney Creek, ON, resident has had highs and lows on his credit journey.

“There are low times when you’re overstretched, and then there are times when you’re happy,” he says. “I’m not a financial expert. I learned about credit through trial and error and life.”

The avid soccer player knows that in life, like sports, it’s important to have the right teammates by your side. That’s how he describes the support and security of a Capital One credit card.

“It’s very important to trust a credit card company,” says Jeff. After he was defrauded on another card, he feels more secure knowing that Capital One has his back. “Capital One reached out to me out of the blue and said, ‘We believe your credit card has been compromised.’ It was extremely comforting that they were the ones who came to me. Having Capital One alerts gives me a calmness throughout my day that I’m being protected.”

That peace of mind from Capital One helped him get back to the things he loves. “Capital One was a little invisible bodyguard, protecting me from fraudulent charges,” he jokes.

As a father of three daughters, he knows how important that kind of support is. He has worked to strengthen his credit so he can help his family.

“Family is the core of my life,” he says. “Our family supports each other, we always have. My daughters are in their 20s and starting out, and we’re able to help them lease a place. Everyone wants to help their children. Especially these days, young adults need more help. Credit is important for us to be able to do that.”

Now, Jeff’s optimistic about what’s ahead. “I’m excited to get a little older,” Jeff says with a smile. “I have a happy, loving family and I’m at a place in my life where I’m comfortable. I’m comfortable with my physical activity, my mental health and comfortable financially.”

c. Your application is flagged for fraud prevention.

d. You have an existing Capital One account.

e. You’ve applied for a Capital One account in the last 30 days or had an account with us that was not in good standing in the last year. In good standing means not past due, over limit, fraudulent, restricted, or part of a consumer credit counselling program or bankruptcy.

In some cases, we may not be able to open an account for you even though your application was approved. This can happen if we’re unable to verify your identity, or you don’t provide the required security funds if you’re approved for a Secured Mastercard®.
