Your credit score: Know it. Grow it.

Your credit score can play an important role in helping you achieve your financial goals. It represents how you’ve used credit in the past, and lenders take it into consideration when deciding whether or not to extend credit. This includes leasing a car or applying for a credit card in the future.

How to help improve your credit score.

We share some healthy habits that could have the most impact on your score.

Pay your bills on time

Making at least the minimum payment to your credit accounts on or before the due date shows lenders that you’re committed to building good credit.

Monitor your credit usage

Using most or all of your available credit can make you appear riskier to lenders. Try to keep your credit usage across all your credit accounts low.

Build your credit history

Maintaining these healthy habits gives lenders a picture of how you’ve managed your credit over time.

If you’re looking to build or rebuild your credit, knowing your score can give you a head start because it provides a picture of your current credit health.

Credit Keeper® from Capital One gives you quick access to your credit score for free. You don’t have to be a Capital One customer to use it, but if you are, you can check your credit score within Capital One online banking or our mobile app. (Credit Keeper is currently unavailable to Quebec residents.)

Feel more at ease by checking in on your credit score.

You can check your score regularly to see how it changes over time. Checking won’t impact your score, no matter how often you do it.
