Yay! Your Capital One card comes with benefits! (What does that mean?)
Your credit card can do more than help you build credit. All unsecured and secured Capital One cards come with perks designed to make life a little easier. From purchase protection to extended warranties and rental car coverage there’s lots to love about being a cardholder.
Shop safer with purchase assurance
Everyone’s had that dreaded “oh no” moment when an important new item gets lost, stolen or damaged. Luckily, all Capital One credit cards come with Purchase Assurance. That means you can breathe a little easier if your new phone takes an unexpected tumble1.
How it works
-
Buy an eligible item with your Capital One credit card.
-
If something happens to it within 120 days, call the number in your card’s Certificate of Insurance.
-
Once your claim is assessed and approved, the item will be repaired, replaced or reimbursed for the full purchase price.
Tip: This coverage even applies worldwide and to gifts you buy for others! So, if your niece’s new birthday gift gets destroyed by the family dog, you’re likely still covered.
Best of all, the coverage works automatically (no extra registration needed). Just keep your receipts and follow the simple claims process if you ever need it.
Extend your peace of mind with an extended warranty
Why stop at the manufacturer’s warranty when your Capital One credit card can give you more? With our Extended Warranty benefit, most new items you buy with your card automatically get double the original warranty period (up to two years).
How it works
-
If the manufacturer’s warranty lasts one year, you’ll get another year for free.
-
This applies to personal items bought with your card.
So if the trusty new toaster or blender you bought stops working after the original warranty period ended, you won’t be stuck paying for repairs or a replacement.
Tip: Keep your receipts and warranty documents handy. If something goes wrong, call the number in your card’s Certificate of Insurance and you should be back to toasting or blending in no time.
Hit the road with car rental insurance
Planning a road trip or fun getaway? Your Capital One card’s Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage Waiver Insurance can help you save money while keeping you covered. You’re automatically protected by this benefit when you pay for a car rental with your card and decline the rental agency’s collision damage waiver (CDW) or loss damage waiver (LDW).
How it works
-
Coverage applies worldwide (except where prohibited by law) for rentals up to 31 days.
-
Damage, theft and costs like towing, administrative fees and the rental company’s loss of use are covered.
-
You don’t have to pay extra for the rental agency’s CDW/LDW.
Tip: Some rental agencies may try to prevent you from declining their CDW/LDW coverage or insist you pay a deposit. Call ahead for peace of mind. Also, be sure to keep your rental agreement handy and to take photos of the car before driving off – just in case.
Avoid overpaying with price protection
Who doesn’t love a good deal? With your card’s Price Protection Service, you can shop knowing you won’t miss out on savings. If you find a lower price on an identical item within 60 days of purchase, this feature steps in to help you get back the difference.
How it works
-
Buy an eligible item with your Capital One credit card.
-
If you then find the same item at a lower price within 60 days, call the number in your card’s Certificate of Insurance.
-
Once your claim is assessed and approved, you’ll be refunded the price difference or allowed to return the original item and buy the lower-priced one.
Tip: Save receipts and sale advertisements and remember that like Purchase Assurance, the Price Protection Service also applies to gifts you buy for others.

* If Quick Check pre-approves a card, you can be sure we’ll approve your application, except in limited circumstances. Some of the reasons we may not approve your application, among others, include:
a. There’s been a change in your credit file information, personal information or financial status from the time you receive your Quick Check results to the time you apply for one of our credit cards.
b. You’re not at least the age of majority in the province or territory you live in.
c. Your application is flagged for fraud prevention.
d. You have an existing Capital One account.
e. You’ve applied for a Capital One account in the last 30 days or had an account with us that was not in good standing in the last year. In good standing means not past due, over limit, fraudulent, restricted, or part of a consumer credit counselling program or bankruptcy.
In some cases, we may not be able to open an account for you even though your application was approved. This can happen if we’re unable to verify your identity, or you don’t provide the required security funds if you’re approved for a Secured Mastercard®.
